Book Recommendation - Cloaked In Beauty
If you're ever looking for a good historical fiction novel that has everything - romance, mystery, excellent plot-line, characters that you can love and relate to, witty banter, character development, and still include a beautiful faith element, look no further than Karen Witemeyer. Her upcoming release, Cloaked in Beauty, is the 3rd in her "Texas Ever After" series, a series of fairy tale re-tellings that take place in the Old West. With a mash-up of Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood, this one tops my favorite of the series and is one of my top reads for the year! Though it is the 3rd in the series, each book stands alone. Their common denominator is that they are all fairy tale re-tellings. Here's a bit about the book:
In the heart of the Piney Woods of Texas, Letty Hood has spent the last fifteen years of her life hidden away with her grandmother to escape the deadly schemes of an uncle who wants her dead. Now, with her twenty-first birthday on the horizon, she is forced to accept the escort of a stranger and return to Houston in secret so she can claim a birthright that will make her one of the wealthiest women in Texas. If she lives long enough to inherit.
Pinkerton agent Philip Carmichael has one duty: get the Radcliffe heiress home alive. Expecting a spoiled girl, Philip is surprised to encounter a woman of rare strength with a kind soul and keen wit. As they journey together, Letty's resilience wins his admiration, breaking through his hardened cynicism. Yet the threat to Letty grows more menacing with every mile, and Philip fears that keeping her out of harm's way may be just as impossible as keeping her out of his heart.
"Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty" entwine for a romantic fairy tale retelling that explores the power of true love conquering even the darkest of nights.
One thing I absolutely love is when authors give personalities to the pets within a story. Rusty, the red wolf, is a wild animal, but has been tamed (as much as possible for a wolf) to be more of a pet, but one that can still be vicious when his mistress is placed in danger. I loved how Rusty had his own personality and seemed almost human at times. He was easily my favorite character in the story.
Though this is the final slated book in the series with the publisher, the author has plans to continue the series doing Indie publishing, in the background of her other book contracts. She has a Beauty and the Beast re-telling in the works currently. Cloaked in Beauty releases December 17, 2024, wherever books are sold. Be sure to check it out!
