Book Recommendation - The Garden Girls

 

Jessica Patch has recently become one of my favorite authors to follow on social media. With a twisted sense of humor and deep love of God, she has some very unique posts. Those personality items find their way into her writing as well. Though many of her books are love inspired suspense, it's her grittier harlequin books that draw me in. The Garden Girls is the last(??) in the SCU series, but it's my favorite of hers so far. I've thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and Ty has been my favorite character, so it would stand to reason that I would like his book the best. 

Here's a bit about the book:

On a remote Outer Banks island, a serial killer collects his prized specimens. And to stop him, an FBI agent must confront his own twisted past.

Belonging to the author's reader group on Facebook, I've had a bit of inside information on the story itself. For example, the house that is nearly its own character in the book, where the killer keeps his "garden girls" is based on this actual house in the Outer Banks:


Looks nice and innocent..... and secluded! 


This book sucked me in from the get-go and completely threw me for a loop on the "whodunit" element. If you enjoy gritty suspense with a touch of romance and an underlying faith thread, this is one you should definitely check out! This book releases April 23, 2024 wherever books are sold. Book Recommendation - Voice of the Ancient

  Connilyn Cossette is one of the best writers in the arena of Biblical historical fiction. With her words, she brings the old testament world to life and pulls the reader to see it through new eyes. Her upcoming novel, Voice of the Ancient, takes place during the time of Samuel, when Israel clamored for a king. I really enjoyed her take on what Israel was like during that time and absolutely adored the characters of Avidan and Keziah. Here's a bit about the book: As the eldest son of a Levite and a Philistine, Avidan is torn between his duty to his family legacy and the desire for something more. Book Recommendation - The Curse of Misty Wayfair

My very first read of 2019 was this super-creepy dual timeline novel, The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jaime Jo Wright. I discovered Ms. Wright at the beginning of 2018 when I found her debut novel, The House on Foster Hill, and LOVED it. Later in the year, she released The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. Though this one spooked me the most (I had ghostly dreams a time or two while reading this one), I think this is the best one yet! This book goes back and forth between Thea in 1908 and Heidi in present day. Both are on a quest to find themselves and for both of them, their quest has brought them to the small town of Pleasant Valley, WI. There is a curse that supposedly haunts the woods, and both characters in their respective timelines are drawn into the curse and what it means for them.
